Naturopathy
Naturopathy emphasizes prevention and utilizes natural therapeutics. Naturopaths are also able to function within an integrated framework. Naturopathic therapies are used to complement treatments of conventionally trained medical doctors. The result is a patient-centered approach that strives to provide the most appropriate treatment for an individual’s needs.
Naturopaths are trained at an accredited, four-year, post-graduate educational institution. This training provides knowledge of the conventional medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, immunology, clinical and physical diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis, cardiology, gastroenterology, and gynecology. In addition to this curriculum, the naturopath is required to complete training in clinical nutrition, botanics & herbology and lifestyle change counseling.
Naturopathy views masking or suppressing of symptoms as harmful to your body. With that philosophy as a foundation, naturopaths seek to identify and treat underlying causes of illness.
Naturopaths are guided by six principles:
- First, Do No Harm
- The Healing Power of Nature
- Find the Cause
- Treat the Whole Person
- Preventive Medicine
- Doctor as Teacher
